I’ve been hijacked!!!

October 17 – it was a typical busy day for me. Just another work day with my trusty laptop. I am a very organized person in a very disorganized way – I know where everything is as long as nobody touches my files. That is why instead of having a resident desktop at the office, I opted to bring a laptop to work everyday. My laptop was equipped with the latest anti-virus and anti-spyware, I scan it every day and yet I got infected.

I tried every fix I could find in the web and have been fighting this thing for over 24 hours straight! With no sleep and close to trashing my laptop, I finally admitted defeat. Sorted out my files in safe mode because nobody in their right minds could work with all those annoying pop-ups popping up every 5 seconds or so, top it up with a blood red desktop that takes you to stupid spyware sites everytime you clicked on any part of it. After sorting out my files which amounted to almost 20Gb of space, I have no choice but to delete all those downloaded movies and albums that I have spent countless hours, days and even weeks waiting for. It finally went down to 7Gb of doc and pdf files.

I then tried another fix that I have found online and for about 3 hours or so, I was in heaven. I thought my problem was finally solved and I do not have to resort to a fresh, clean install of windows xp. I finally made a backup of my files even though I thought I was not going to reinstall my OS. Lucky for me I did because after three hours of bliss, the annoying pop-ups are at it again and I have no choice. I reinstalled my OS and here I am now, still at it, trying to find my CS3 Suite installer. I do hope I find it soon or I’m toast.

    I had the same problem after exploring questionable sites.
    After spending 3 hours found the solution:
    - Uninstalled Java;
    - Logged in Safe mode;
    - Logged in as Administrator;
    - Deleted my user folder;
    - Crated another user folder with the same name;
    - Copied all the folders/files from administrator folder in C:\\Documents and Settings; Or another choice would be just delete user folder and log in with the same user name, and Windows will create new profile and folder;
    Once you logged in with your with your user name, check if everything is fine.
    It worked with me.
    Good luck.

    Sorry, after installing Java, everything came back. Looks like only reinstalling Windows might help.
