I love Juno

With a busy schedule, I hardly get the chance to watch a movie. In fact, it has been almost two years since I last saw a real live movie in a movie theater!

Anyway, there’s this movie sitting in my desktop for almost a month. I did not pay attention to it, I just did not have the time. I have projects to start, deadlines to meet, and kids to play with. But somehow today, I kept running into that movie file so I finally got the guts to stop work for a while and watch it. I planned to just watch the first 10 minutes and turn it off. But I ended up watching the whole movie and I even researched on the soundtrack of the movie!

The movie is called Juno, spearheaded by Ellen Page and Michael Cera. It is a fun quirky movie with a great dialogue. The verbal exchange between the characters are mind bending, I just love it! The script deviates from the “girl got pregnant - girl got abortion but chickened out - contemplated adoption - baby got adopted - girl found another love” plot. The soundtrack is not for sissies either, I just love the movie and its been a long time since I got this worked up for a particular movie. I plan on seeing it again and again whenever I get the chance to.

Below is the lyrics for “Anyone Else But You” from the movie, you can listen to it by clicking the play button. :)

Anyone Else But You

You’re a part time lover and a full time friend
The monkey on your back is the latest trend
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

I’ll kiss you on the brain in the shadow of the train
I’ll kiss you all starry eyed my body swingin’ from side to side
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

Here is the church and here is the steeple
We sure are cute for two ugly people
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

Pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive
So why can’t you forgive me
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

I will find my niche in your car
With my MP3, DVD, rumble pack guitar
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn’t mean we’re not smart
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

You are always tryin’ to keep it real
I’m in love with how you feel
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

We both have shiny happy fits of rage
You want more fans, I want more stage
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

Don Quixote was a steel driving man
My name is Adam I’m your biggest fan
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you

Squinched up your face and did a dance
Shook a little turd out of the bottom of your pants
I don’t see what anyone can see in anyone else…but you
But you

An upgrade

I just mentioned that I am planning to buy an external hard drive, I forgot until a moment ago, when my laptop started acting up again, that I also need to upgrade the ram. I had photoshop cs3, dreamweaver cs3, thunderbird, firefox and smartftp open and my system suddenly went into stand still. I figure there might be some other problem but a ram upgrade is definitely in line. I have 1gb ram installed but it is never enough, my laptop can handle up to 4gb of ram, I might consider an additional 2gb upgrade if I have enough budget left over from the external hdd or might settle for an additional 1gb ram. Anything is better than 1gb, even a 512mb upgrade is looking great as of the moment. :)

Addicted to books

I am a voracious reader and proud of it. I read everything, from medicine brochures, pamphlets, roadside posters, children books, ebooks, practically anything I could get my hands into. I can read an entire novel in a day, in one sitting if the plot is really good. I remembered when I had all the time in my life and I would spend it meeting people, monsters, aliens, animals and whatnot. I talked with monsters, heroes, princes and princesses, magical creatures, famous people and long lost friends.

My love of reading and books started at a very young age. If I can remember it right, the first book I read when I first learned how is The Bible. I would memorize verses and whole chapters, my memory retention back then was superb :). I won a lot of Bible contest back when I was young. I got to know Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys really well. I then found suspense novels and they retained my attention for quite awhile, I hoarded them, I read them voraciously, I dream about them. Stephen King, John Saul are my best friends. They entertained me and I spent most of my allowance buying their books.

I read romance novels every now and then but they just don’t have enough content to keep me entertained. I do love the idea of a knight in shining armor but too much of it is just, well, too much. I then found the world of fantasy and it got me, hook, line and sinker. I am a very practical(?) person, but the idea of a fantasy land where magic is abundant and happy endings can happen (but not always) appeals to the child in me. I got to know JRR Tolkien, JK Rowlings, David Eddings and Piers Anthony among others. They were my constant companion, and they still are.

Although, I do not have enough free time to read books the way I did before, I still can squeeze in a chapter or two in between work. I fell in love with Piers Anthony’s Xanth series and I even named my son “Xanth Reign” in honor of this magical land and its people. I have most of the collection in ebooks which I download into my phone to read once in awhile. Although not as fulfilling as holding a real book in your hands and manually flipping the pages, reading books in my ebook reader can still give me the satisfaction that only books can give me.

So, am I addicted to books? Nah…
